Our first date night since baby Luke was great. Questions like: “was he thinking about us?” and “what was he doing?” crossed my mind. Granted, he was with my mother so there wasn’t a need to worry but I had never been away from him. My husband and I went to one of our favorite burger spots and listened to live music. It was a short outing but needed! If you’re a new mom or know new parents I highly suggest investing in date night or offering to watch their little one so they can enjoy a night out.
It’s close to fall but the humid Carolina summer isn’t showing signs of letting up. I wanted to be very comfortable but of course fashionable. I love these black shorts from Queen Styles Boutique. They’re perfect for all seasons. During the warm month I can wear them with just about any style shirt for a cute look and I can’t wait to pair them with a pair of tights when the weather cools down. For date night, I paired them with a white t-shirt and sandals.

It’s hard to believe that our baby boy will be here in less than 4 weeks! We’re so excited to meet him. We’re busy making sure everything is ready for him and I’m busy trying to stay cool and comfortable. I’ve been sticking to light fabrics as best as I can. Here’s a look I out together recently. It’s pretty casual but I can’t wait to dress these pants up with a cute pair of heels or wear them with a crop top. Wearing black and white really allows you to play with different colors in your accessories. I chose to pair this look with metallic accessories but the next time, I’ll probably pair these paints with a little more color.

I’m looking forward to this three day weekend. We made all of these plans and then we scrapped them. Why? Because we didn’t want to have a planned weekend. We really just wanted to rest and go with the flow. I really believe that amazing things can happen to us when we let go. When we realize we don’t always have to have control, we open ourselves up to new possibilities, relationships, and experiences. So, I have no idea what we’re doing this weekend but I’m looking forward to it!
To all of the brave men and women who lost their lives fighting for the United States, I thank you for your sacrifice. I’m praying that God’s peace and love surrounds your family.
I’ve been busy with Queen Styles Boutique and getting everything ready for when our baby boy arrives. I needed a break! A time to just refocus and recharge my batteries. So we went to a baseball game and tried out a new restaurant. That seems to always do the trick. I’ve always loved overalls because they bring me back to my childhood. I probably had a pair in just about everything color! So this seemed like the perfect time to wear them. I really do believe that what we wear can alter our moods. Our clothing can boost our moods and make us feel different when we need it.
I decided to be really casual and paired my overalls with a stripped shirt and comfy shoes. You can wear overalls with tank tops or a basic tee. You can pair them with sneakers, sandals or a cute pair of wedges.
Wow! I feel like February has gone by so quickly. It could be time or the fact that my husband and I have been so busy this month. For starters, we’re four months pregnant! You can head over to my Instagram (@_lifeisgolden_) to check out our announcement. We’re so excited! I’ll be posting our gender reveal soon as well. In addition, I’ve been working more and more on Queen Styles Boutique. Our spring collection will be available soon and we’ve been working so hard on it! I can’t wait for you to see it. The top below is one of the items that will be apart of the spring collection.
I love exploring new areas of Charlotte. These photos were taken in the beautiful Huntersville area.

For the past weekends, I’ve been doing several pop-up shops for Queen Styles Boutique. I love doing pop-up shops. Being that I sell clothes online, I like whenever I can meet customers face-to-face. I can see their reactions to the fabrics and interact with them. It’s an amazing feeling. I had the opportunity to do a pop-up shop yesterday and today. I thought about it and chose to only do an event yesterday. I struggled with that decision if I’m being honest with you. I wanted to work but I knew I was tired. I didn’t want to start a new week off drained and tired. I knew I needed to recharge my batteries. So, I decided to listen to that voice. We went to church, picked out our Christmas tree, and watched Hallmark movies all day…I enjoyed every minute of it. And you know what? I feel refreshed, and ready to take on another week. Sometimes, the decision is tough. I think we’ve trained ourselves that if we’re not working or busy, we must be lazy. There’s a happy medium and your body will tell you, just listen.

I hope this post finds you well. I’m so excited for fall. The cool breeze is finally here and I can’t wait to indulge in pumpkin patches, cider and scarves. This season isn’t just a symbol for these things though. To me, when the seasons change it also is a symbol for new beginnings. The new season signifies something new on the horizon. Yes, I know that fall comes every year but it’s a new year. Fall 2016 has never been here before. Which means you have a fresh start. I don’t like to wait for New Years Eve to make new goals. I like to revisit the goals I set for myself often and this is the perfect time to do that.
So whoever you are and whatever you’re going through, let this season be a fresh start for you. Maybe it’s a new job, relationship or a skill you’re going to diligently learn. I wish you good luck and I know that you’re going to “knock it out of the park.”

As you know, I live in Charlotte, NC. I wasn’t raised here but as I’ve lived here for the past six years, I’ve come to love this city more and more. This city is filled with new experiences and kind people. Right now, Charlotte is hurting and people want justice. I ask you to do me a favor: pray for Charlotte. Spread love today wherever you are.
God has called us all to be kind and gentle towards one another.
I hope you’re having a great weekend! Last night, I saw one of my favorite music artists in concert: Corinne Bailey Rae. I’ve loved her since I was in high school. I looked up to her for a lot of reasons. One of them being the fact that she’s simply herself. As someone who was bullied a lot for being different, it was nice to see someone who didn’t care what others thought of them. She was a visual reminder that it’s okay to be yourself. Her concert was awesome! Then I got the chance to meet her. I had this whole speech planned in my head about what I was going to say. I planned on telling her how much her music has helped me and how big of a fan I was. Well when I met her, the only thing I could say was: “how has your day been?” 😂😂😂. She has such a humbling spirit and answered my question politely. It was awesome to meet her! Here’s what I wore:

Wow. It still feels surreal that I graduated. I worked so hard and even when I got sick, I decided not to withdraw from classes. Walking across the stage on Friday was truly rewarding! I can’t say what happens next for me. I’m not sure about you, but moments of transition aren’t always easy for me. Maybe it’s due to my knee-jerk reaction to control every situation (I’ve been that way since I was little). I started stressing about my next move when I realized that worrying about the future takes away from the current moment. I had a lot of friends and family who came to celebrate with me this weekend and focusing on the negative only diminished this positive moment.
So I say to you, whether you are a graduate or just someone thinking about your future, RELAX. Enjoy right now. The future will always take care of itself. Things have a way of falling into place when we stop trying to arrange the future to match our perfect plan. I’m not saying that you shouldn’t have a plan. What I’m saying is to be open and flexible to make any changes to your perfect plans for your future.
