I hope you all had a great time celebrating the Fourth of July. Thank you to all who have served our country! I was on vacation in Hilton Head Islad, South Carolina (if you follow me on Snapchat you already know that). Vacation is exactly what the doctor ordered.
On the last night we were there, I wore black and brown. It’s always bothered me when people say black and brown don’t match. They do! They’re both neutral colors so they can go with any color and each other.
This was a pretty big moment for me. You all know that I had to have emergency surgery last fall and because of it, I have a long scar from the top of my rib cage that goes under my belly button. I have a scar on my back as well but I was really nervous about showing this one! I finally decided that I didn’t care. Scars are kind of like battle wounds if you think about it. I survived something pretty incredible and there’s no shame in being a survivor.
Here’s what’s wore:
Mixing stripes is probably one of my favorite prints to mix and match. For this look I stuck with black, brown, grey and blue. The yellow in this shirt adds a little something extra to the look but doesn’t overwhelm it. Layering was key with this look. I wanted to add some definition to my waist so I added the black belt to pull everything together.
Hat: Old Navy
Boots: Shoe Dazzle
I rarely wear all black. I just put the finishing touches on classes and am on a two week break from classes and work so I felt the need to relax a little. One of the great things about wearing all black, is if the fit is correct you don’t have to accessorize as much because it’s already a bold statement. You have to make sure the outfit you’re wearing fits your body correctly, if not you’ll look like the outfit overwhelms you and you’re beautiful shape won’t be defined.

I like styling with different proportions. The trick is to tailor the proportions to your height. I’m 5’8 so I can wear longer proportions like this skirt and a longer top and it doesn’t overwhelm my frame. My advice is to try on a few proportions until you get it right! You may have to try on different tops with different skirts of different lengths but your look will come together 😃

It’s been so cloudy and gloomy here lately but I love it! It makes me just want a cup of hot coco and sit by the fire plus it’s a great time to bring out the big floppy hats.
It’s funny, when I had surgery on my back I was so conscious about my scar. I didn’t want to wear tank tops or anything strapless that would show my scar but this time around, I could really care less about the scar on my stomach. This surgery was so unexpected and I’m blessed to be in good health so why not show my scar? Plus it was my birthday 😎

I love this dress. It’s a fresh take on a shirt-dress. I wrapped this brown belt around it, to mix it up.
Purse: Betsy Johnson
I’ll admit, I’m not really a mesh fan but I love this shirt! If you’re on the fence about a trend, the key is subtly. There’s just enough mesh in this shirt without being overwhelming.
Pants: Old Navy
Friday means it’s Food Truck Friday for me. It’s held close to the uptown area here. I paired these colored heels with this dress to add a little more visual interest.

If you follow me, you might remember me telling you that I witnessed two of my friends becoming engaged to one another while we were on vacation. Well, they had a surprise engagement party this past weekend!
I’ve told you how much I love pairing brown and black in my outfits. It’s so simple and if done correctly, adds a little edge to your outfit. Here’s what I wore:

Keke Palmer rocked this blue and black suit last night on the red carpet for an event at the BET Awards.
