Birthday Love

This past Monday was my birthday. Thank you to all of you who wrote kind words on social media. This week, I also had to work in Wilmington, NC. I love Wilmington not just for its beaches but for the relaxed vibe that comes from the people. It’s truly amazing when no one is rushing to get to the next place. No one is riding your bumper in traffic trying to rush you. It’s nice to relax. I took a break from work Monday night to celebrate another year. Here’s what I wore downtown:

Silk Dress: Banana Republic

Cardigan: Forever21

Boots: Old Navy

Celebrate Yourself

Hello Friends!

This weekend has been all about celebrating my birthday. It’s not until Monday but I usually celebrate for multiple days. I’m that friend who wears a birthday crown and sash. It doesn’t matter if it’s a milestone birthday or not, I always get excited to celebrate birthdays. I think birthdays are worth celebrating. Usually, we cater to others 364 days out of the year. I think we deserve one day that’s all about us.

I think it’s so important to celebrate yourself! We visited Greenville,SC for the weekend. Here’s what I wore for my first celebration. Don’t forget to follow me on snapchat:deneagm and Instagram: @_lifeisgolden_ to keep up with me.

Tank top: Old Navy

Shorts: Jc Penny

Shoes: Nine West

Hat: Old Navy

Pray for Charlotte

Hello Friends!

As you know, I live in Charlotte, NC. I wasn’t raised here but as I’ve lived here for the past six years, I’ve come to love this city more and more. This city is filled with new experiences and kind people. Right now, Charlotte is hurting and people want justice. I ask you to do me a favor: pray for Charlotte. Spread love today wherever you are.

God has called us all to be kind and gentle towards one another.

Just Be Yourself

I hope you’re having a great weekend! Last night, I saw one of my favorite music artists in concert: Corinne Bailey Rae. I’ve loved her since I was in high school. I looked up to her for a lot of reasons. One of them being the fact that she’s simply herself. As someone who was bullied a lot for being different, it was nice to see someone who didn’t care what others thought of them. She was a visual reminder that it’s okay to be yourself. Her concert was awesome! Then I got the chance to meet her. I had this whole speech planned in my head about what I was going to say. I planned on telling her how much her music has helped me and how big of a fan I was. Well when I met her, the only thing I could say was: “how has your day been?” 😂😂😂. She has such a humbling spirit and answered my question politely. It was awesome to meet her! Here’s what I wore:

Dress: Marshalls

Kimono: H&M

Boots: Old Navy

How to: Dress on Game Day

I hope you had a refreshing weekend. Over the weekend I watched the game (College Football) at a friend’s house in Columbia, SC. It was pretty appropriate being that my college team is the South Carolina Gamecocks. For me, college football is the unofficial start of fall, so I get pretty excited for game day. However it’s hard to dress for a season that hasn’t officially arrived yet. In the Carolinas, it’s still pretty warm out. I get a lot of questions about game day fashion. I like to keep fashion rules simple so I have two simple tips for you:

1. Do dress for the occasion. If you’re tailgating, wear comfortable shoes. If you’re watching the game in the stadium, dress in layers. Dressing in layers is also a perfect option if the seasons haven’t officially changed where you are.

2. Wearing team colors isn’t superficial. Your age doesn’t matter. It doesn’t matter how long ago you graduated, if you want to wear your school colors, do it!  You can incorporate the colors with your accessories, clothes and even makeup. Have some fun with it.
