Be Kind to Yourself

It was one of those days for me. I  didn’t sleep well, burned my breakfast and showed up to present at a school over an hour early lol. I was just off my game today. I started to really beat myself up inside over my mistakes when I remembered…be nice! Growing up, you hear “if you don’t have anything nice to say, don’t say anything at all” or when you get married you hear ” love is patient, love is kind.” I was always told those things in regards to others but what about how you treat yourself? What about making sure you are kind to yourself? Your thoughts become your words and eventually your actions. If you’re not kind to yourself, who will be? It starts with you! Lighten on yourself and give you a break…and remember…if Britney made it through 2007 you can make it through today!

Menswear Monday Polka Dots

Did you think Polka Dots we’re going out of style? They’re supposed to be very on trend this summer. This pattern can be overwhelming to try but help your man out by starting small. Start out with  something subtle like polka dot socks or a tie first. Then move on to a shirt once you’re feeling comfortable.

Wedding Florals

I love being invited to attend weddings. It’s something in the air that day that’s just very exciting. It’s a day where family and friends come together and celebrate love and that’s a great feeling.

Rain and Plaid

I’m going on a road trip with my husband and brother-in-law. I’m notorious for falling asleep within the first thirty minutes on road trips. It’s something about the movement of the car that gets me every time.

Hello Friday!

Have you ever had a Friday in which you’re happy the weekend is here but you need a second or two to just catch your breath? Ever have a week that just didn’t go your way and you catch yourself thinking about what you could’ve done differently all weekend? If you have, know you are NOT alone. I use to beat myself up all the time on Fridays. I would obsess over what I could’ve done or said differently to have a different outcome so much and realize that I’ve missed my entire weekend! I finally set a plan in place to avoid doing this. Here’s my plan, feel free to try this today!

1. Just Breath

Go ahead, you’ve earned it! Take a couple deep breaths and realize you made it to Friday. This week might have been tough but you were NOT defeated! You made it to Friday!

2. Reflect

Maybe there was someone that offended you or maybe you did something or said something you shouldn’t have…take a FEW minutes to really think about it. Ask yourself two questions: “what could I have done differently?” ” what is the lesson in this?” Once you have your answers, move on. Don’t dwell on it. If you need to apologize to someone, do it and move it. Don’t obsess over what happened. If you do, you will look up, realize that it’s Sunday night and your weekend is over. Your weekend is done and you spent it obessing on last week.

3. Move Forward with a Clear Mind

You’ve reflected and now it’s time to move on! For example: I look forward to going out with friends and my husband or maybe just sitting outside with a nice glass of wine:) whatever I’m doing, you can be sure that I’ve moved on from whatever happened last week. That means any paperwork from work is put away. I don’t have any reminders of my mistake from last week in sight. This allows me to be in the present and really focus on what my weekend brings.

I hope you found these tips helpful. I hope you have an AWESOME weekend 😊

Earth Day!

I hope you all are having an awesome Wednesday and Happy Earth Day! We only have one Earth and we need to take care of it. I think it’s easy to feel so overwhelmed when you think about doing your part for Mother Earth but you can start small! Every little bit helps. Here are some tips on how you can do your part by starting out small and fashion lines that support the movement:
1. Go Paperless!

Not every email needs to be printed. Nowadays, a lot of stores are asking if you want to have your receipt printed or emailed to you. I know you may not want them to have your email address but pause for a second and think about what you are actually going to do with that printed receipt. If its recycle it, that’s awesome! If you’re just going to throw it away, consider having the recipes emailed to you.

2. Don’t Litter!

It grinds my gears when I see people litter! Sure, we have people who clean the streets of trash, but what if they miss a piece of trash that was just tossed out of a car? It basically ends up in a landfill.

3. Turn off the Lights!

When we’re busy, it can be easy to have multiple lights on at a time in our house and I get that but try to be mindful of this. The heat from the electricity we don’t use adds to Global Warming.

4. Recycle!

Most apartment complexes have recycling bins for their residents to use. If you have them, use them!

Some of the fashion lines that support this movement are:

Wewood Watches (they plant a tree when you buy a product and you can choose where to plant it)

Tonle’ (they reuse textile fabrics)

Matt & Nat ( luxury handbags that are made out of recycled bottles)

Study NY ( they have a no waste policy and use recycled materials in their designs)
Just to name a few!
Remember, these are just ideas to get you started. Good luck!

Menswear Monday: Pastels

I love a man in pastel colors. Here are two tips for helping your man dress in pastel colors:

1. Moderation

If your man isn’t comfortable with the idea of pastels, help him start off slowly with a pastel colored pocket square or tie just to ease him into the trend.

2. Fit

Lighter colors tend to augment our shapes (even for men) so if your man has more to love in the middle, help him out by pairing a darker colored shirt and pastel colored shorts or pants.
